Boeing Secures $2.47B Air Force Tanker Contract, Shares Rise 3%
Boeing (NYSE:BA) shares climbed nearly 3% Wednesday after landing a $2.47 billion U.S. Air Force contract for 15 KC-46A Pegasus tankers. The deal marks a slight price increase from last year's $2.38 billion agreement for the same quantity.
Despite prior quality issues—including foreign object debris and supplier defects—the Air Force continues expanding its fleet, now totaling 98 KC-46As since 2019. Israel’s defense ministry separately plans to acquire two units for $500 million.
The contract win overshadows lingering operational challenges, signaling renewed confidence in Boeing’s defense division. Meanwhile, undisclosed developments at the Dubai Airshow suggest further momentum in aerospace deals.
